Pilates leg warmers are having a moment. Some people wear them for the balletcore look, and some wear them because the studio is cold. Either way, there's a catch: some studios require grip on your feet. Club Pilates, for example, says in its FAQ that "every class participant needs grip socks."

So the real choice is between two styles. You can wear footless leg warmers over your usual grip socks, or pick a stirrup pair with grips built into the sole. After that, it comes down to length, fabric and whether the pair actually stays up. Below are six picks, three alternatives and what to check before you buy.

How we chose: We compared fabric, length, footless vs grip-sole design and sizing from brand pages (Tavi, Sticky Be, Tucketts, ToeSox, Bloch) and cross-checked them against retailer listings (simplyWORKOUT, The Sock Monster) and buyer reviews. We don't test products in-house. We could only partly confirm the Bombas specs, and where listings conflict, we say so. Full sources are at the end.

The best Pilates leg warmers

Best overall

1. Tavi Leg Warmers Thigh High

Check price at Tavi

Tavi mainly sells Pilates grip socks, and its leg warmers are footless, so you wear them over your usual grip sock and keep its grip.

According to Tavi:

  • Length: 35 in, one size fits most, designed to scrunch
  • Fabric: "Alpine yarn," 47% viscose, 27% polyester, 24% nylon, 2% elastane
  • Colors: Petal and Rose (pink), Oat, Ash and Glacial

When we checked in October 2026, Tavi's page showed 11 reviews, 82% of them five stars. One buyer wrote "Quality is exceptional," and another, who has "long slim legs," said "they fit great." One reviewer bought a pair at a Club Pilates studio and later ordered two more.

Not everyone agreed on fit, though: another said they "kept sliding down to my calf." Tavi doesn't list care instructions on the page, and we didn't find this pair on Amazon, so the link goes to Tavi's site.

Pros

  • ✓ Made by a Pilates grip-sock brand
  • ✓ Long enough to wear over the knee or scrunched
  • ✓ Two pink colorways plus neutrals

Cons

  • ✗ One reviewer said they slid to the calf
  • ✗ Care instructions not on the product page
  • ✗ Not found on Amazon

Best with built-in grip

2. Sticky Be Stirrup Grip Leg Warmers

Check price on Amazon

If you don't want to layer, Sticky Be's stirrup leg warmers have grip built in. The brand says they have "silicone grips underfoot so you do not need a separate sock." That's a brand claim, and we found no product reviews on Sticky Be's page to back it up.

According to Sticky Be and the retailer simplyWORKOUT:

  • Style: knee-high stirrup with elastic arch support and a padded footbed (Sticky Be)
  • Fabric: 80% cotton, 20% spandex (Sticky Be)
  • Length and fit: about 20 in, one size for shoe sizes 6–10 (simplyWORKOUT). For bigger feet, Sticky Be points shoppers to its size 10–13 socks.
  • Styles: Be Love, Be Cozy, Be Free, Be Thankful and Be Positive come in the stirrup version

The care instructions conflict. Sticky Be says machine wash and tumble dry low, while simplyWORKOUT says hand wash and line dry. If you want them to last, the gentler option is the safer bet.

Pros

  • ✓ Grip sole replaces a separate sock (brand claim)
  • ✓ Mostly cotton
  • ✓ Several prints in the stirrup style

Cons

  • ✗ No product reviews found
  • ✗ Care instructions conflict between brand and retailer
  • ✗ One size runs to about shoe size 10

Best cotton

3. Tucketts Leg Warmers (Ruched / Dip Dye)

Check price on Amazon

Tucketts publishes more fit details than most brands here, which helps if you have slim or full calves.

According to Tucketts:

  • Length: 26 in, worn over the knee or scrunched
  • Fit: calf 8–18 in, upper cuff 3.5–9 in, one size
  • Fabric: 70% cotton, 29% nylon, 1% spandex
  • Colors: include Dip Dye and Ruched Garnet and Tanami (colors vary by stock)

The grip details are unclear. Tucketts' page and an Amazon listing title ("Toeless ... Non-slip Grip") say the warmer has grips on the sole. simplyWORKOUT calls it toe-free with arch support, doesn't mention grips and says it fits up to shoe size 9.5. We couldn't confirm the grip from photos or reviews, so if your studio requires grip socks, you may want to wear it over a pair, such as Tucketts' own toeless Allegro socks.

Tucketts' "4.8/5 by 10,000+ women" rating covers the whole site, not this product. The one simplyWORKOUT review we saw said, "It's so cute! Can't wait to wear them to the gym."

Pros

  • ✓ Mostly cotton
  • ✓ Published calf and cuff measurements
  • ✓ Mid length is less bulky than thigh-high pairs

Cons

  • ✗ Built-in grip is a brand claim we couldn't confirm
  • ✗ Fits up to shoe size 9.5 (simplyWORKOUT)
  • ✗ Very few product reviews

Best extra-long

4. ToeSox Thigh High Leg Warmers

Check price on Amazon

ToeSox is Tavi's sister brand, and its thigh-high warmers are the longest pair here.

According to ToeSox:

  • Length: 40 in, rib knit with a "scrunch-ready design"
  • Fabric: 60% acrylic, 30% polyester, 10% wool
  • Colors: Black and Charcoal, one size
  • Care: wash inside out on gentle, then line dry or tumble low

Reviews were split. When we checked in October 2026, ToeSox's page showed 20 reviews, 70% five stars and 10% one star. One buyer who wears them to ballet class said they keep her legs "toasty warm," and another said they "barely slide down." A different buyer said, "They don't stay up at all!" Another reviewer on ToeSox's page returned them because she's highly allergic to wool, so check the fabric if wool usually bothers you.

Pros

  • ✓ Longest pair here at 40 in
  • ✓ Wool blend
  • ✓ Buyers mention warmth

Cons

  • ✗ Mixed reviews on staying up
  • ✗ Contains wool (one reviewer returned them over a wool allergy)
  • ✗ Only two dark colors

Best budget

5. Foot Traffic Super Long Leg Warmers (39 in)

Check price on Amazon

Foot Traffic's cable-knit warmers aren't made for Pilates (they're sold for dance and layering), but they're the cheapest long pair we found.

According to the retailer The Sock Monster:

  • Length: 39 in
  • Stretch: up to 25 in around the leg at the top, 30 in at the bottom cuff
  • Fabric: 70% acrylic, 30% nylon (some Amazon and eBay listings say 70% polyester, 30% nylon instead)
  • Fit: one size, described as "super stretchy"
  • Colors: include Black, Burgundy, Grey, Oat and Violet

Height seems to matter with this pair. In Amazon reviews we saw in search previews, a 5 ft 10 in buyer said they fit perfectly, while a shorter buyer wished they were 33 in rather than 39 in. One Amazon listing says hand wash only.

Pros

  • ✓ Lowest price tier here
  • ✓ Very long, so easy to scrunch
  • ✓ Wide color range

Cons

  • ✗ Not made for Pilates
  • ✗ May be too long for shorter legs
  • ✗ Fabric listings conflict; hand wash per one listing

Best pink

6. Bloch Ladies Mira Knit Leg Warmers

Check price at Bloch

Bloch is a dancewear brand, and the Mira is a classic ballet-style leg warmer. At 20 in, it's the shortest pick here, so there's less fabric to bunch on the reformer.

According to Bloch:

  • Length: 20 in, above the knee, pull-on
  • Fabric: 50% viscose, 28% nylon, 22% polyester, soft rib knit
  • Colors: Light Pink, Deep Pink, Black and Grey Marle
  • Returns: returnable (unlike Bloch tights)

Bloch's page had no reviews, and we couldn't confirm Amazon availability, so the link goes to Bloch's US site. These are footless, so wear them over grip socks.

Pros

  • ✓ Two pink shades
  • ✓ Short length stays out of the way
  • ✓ Returnable

Cons

  • ✗ No reviews found
  • ✗ No grip, so you need grip socks
  • ✗ Amazon availability unverified

Also consider

  • Bombas Women's Ribbed Leg Warmers: Bombas pitches them for "barre, pilates, and dance class." Anthropologie lists the fabric as 56% polyester, 31% nylon, 5% yak, 5% merino and 3% elastane. In search previews of Bombas reviews, buyers called them "nice and thick, high quality," but others said they're "2-4 inches too short" and "floppy and keep sliding down," and one said they didn't wash well. We couldn't open Bombas' page, so the length, price tier and reviews are unverified.
  • Arebesk Vintage Legwarmers: 80% cotton and 20% spandex, with a fitted heel that reaches the arch. Arebesk says you can wear them thigh high, below the knee or scrunched, and they come in nine colors, including Pink and Lavender. Care is machine wash warm and line dry. Arebesk doesn't list a length, and they have no grip.
  • Cable-knit multipacks on Amazon: Several sellers sell packs of knit leg warmers at the lowest price tier. One Loritta 6-pair listing we checked on Amazon says it's 100% acrylic and "one size fits comfortably up to 16.5" calves," and its review summary includes "runs small, barely fit over calf." They're not made for Pilates and have no grip, so wear them over grip socks. Check price on Amazon
  • Tavi Jane Grip Socks: If you mainly want warm calves and grip in one piece, a knee-high grip sock does both. According to Tavi, the Jane is 81% GOTS organic cotton with a non-slip sole, in S (6–8) and M (8.5–10.5). One of its two reviews says it "will stay firmly below the knee." The Frost colorway was sold out and final sale when we checked.

Three ways to get warm legs and grip underfoot

Start with your studio's sock rule. Club Pilates requires grip socks for every participant, so check your studio's policy. That leaves three setups:

  • Footless warmers over grip socks (Tavi, ToeSox, Foot Traffic, Bloch): you keep the grip sock you already trust. Tucketts says its ruched toeless pair has grips on the sole, but we couldn't confirm that, so it may work either way.
  • Stirrup warmers with grips (Sticky Be): one piece, with grip on the sole. Sticky Be says you don't need a separate sock, but we found no reviews confirming how well the grip holds.
  • Knee-high grip socks (Tavi Jane): not a leg warmer, but they cover the calf and grip the floor in one piece.

Length: knee-length or thigh-high

Leg diagram showing where 20, 26, 35 and 40 inch leg warmers reach, and a long pair worn pulled up over the knee or scrunched at the calf

Tap the diagram to enlarge

The pairs here run from about 20 in (Bloch Mira, Sticky Be) to 26 in (Tucketts), 35 in (Tavi) and 39–40 in (Foot Traffic, ToeSox). Longer pairs can go over the knee or scrunch down for that slouchy look. Shorter pairs leave less fabric around the knee during footwork.

Staying up is hit-or-miss with one-size knits. Reviewers reported sliding with Tavi, ToeSox and Bombas, even though other buyers of the same pairs had no problem. If you have slim calves, Tucketts' published 8–18 in calf range is the most useful fit detail we found.

Fabric: cotton, wool or viscose blends

  • Cotton-rich (Tucketts, Sticky Be, Arebesk): mostly cotton, with nylon or spandex for stretch. Arebesk and Sticky Be both list machine washing on their pages.
  • Wool blends (ToeSox, Bombas): skip them if you're allergic to wool. One ToeSox buyer returned a pair for that reason.
  • Viscose blends (Tavi, Bloch): soft rib knits.

Check the care label. Sticky Be's brand page and a retailer disagree on washing, and one Foot Traffic listing says hand wash only.

Fit on the reformer

Club Pilates instructor Kate Snyder recommends "wearing fitted clothing like leggings, so both you and your instructor can keep a better eye on your form," and avoiding zippers. She didn't mention leg warmers. Our take, based on that advice: choose a fitted, non-bulky pair, keep grip on the sole (built in or from a separate sock) and take them off if they start to bunch around your knees.

Do leg warmers actually help in Pilates?

Leg warmers come from dance. According to Wikipedia, dancers originally wore them to keep their muscles from cramping after stretching, and the 1980s fashion boom is tied to Fame, Xanadu, Flashdance and aerobics. Wikipedia also notes that no scientific data supports the claim that they prevent injury.

We found no study that tests leg warmers for Pilates. The closest research looks at heated or insulated garments worn between a warm-up and a sports effort:

  • A 2022 systematic review and meta-analysis by Cowper and colleagues in BMC Sports Science, Medicine and Rehabilitation pooled 7 small studies of well-trained athletes (mostly men, in sports like cycling and rowing). Passive heating after a warm-up raised peak power, but it didn't significantly change overall performance. The authors concluded that passive heating devices "have been shown to reduce the decline in muscle temperature."
  • One study in that review (Faulkner and colleagues, 2013) used electrically heated tracksuit pants on trained cyclists. The heated pants kept muscle temperature higher and raised peak power by about 9% compared with standard pants. As the review summarizes it, insulated pants without heating did less.
  • A 2015 study by Raccuglia and colleagues in Extreme Physiology & Medicine notes that muscle temperature falls when athletes wait after a warm-up, and that heated trousers in earlier studies only partly prevented the drop.

The bottom line: leg warmers add a layer over the calves and knees. In a cold studio, that can feel more comfortable, especially at the start of class. Research on warming garments (heated pants, jackets and insulated survival garments) involves trained athletes, not knit leg warmers in Pilates, and no study we found shows leg warmers prevent injury. If you have pain or an injury, ask a doctor or physical therapist rather than relying on a garment.

How to style leg warmers in a Pilates outfit

The leg-warmer revival is tied to balletcore. Who What Wear linked the trend to that look and said it's strongest among Gen Z, though that piece is about three years old and isn't about Pilates. Our suggestion, in line with the fitted-clothing advice above: fitted leggings or shorts, a fitted top and leg warmers in a matching neutral or pink. For the full checklist, see what to wear to Pilates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do people wear leg warmers to Pilates?

Mostly for warmth in a cold studio and for the balletcore look. They come from dance, where, according to Wikipedia, they were worn to keep leg muscles warm and from cramping after stretching. No study we found shows they prevent injury.

How do you wear leg warmers with grip socks?

Put on your grip socks first, then pull footless leg warmers over them so the sole stays uncovered. Scrunch long pairs below the knee if they bunch during footwork.

Can you wear leg warmers to reformer Pilates?

Yes, if they're fitted and you still have grip underfoot. Club Pilates requires grip socks for every participant, and its instructors recommend fitted clothing so your form is visible. Wear footless warmers over grip socks, or choose a stirrup style with grips like Sticky Be's (a brand claim).

Do leg warmers prevent injury?

No study we found shows this. Research on warming garments (heated pants, jackets and insulated survival garments) involves trained athletes, not knit leg warmers in Pilates. Those slowed the drop in muscle temperature after a warm-up and raised peak power, without a significant effect on overall performance.

What length leg warmers are best for Pilates?

Knee-length pairs (about 20 in, like the Bloch Mira) stay out of the way. Thigh-high pairs (35–40 in, like Tavi and ToeSox) can be worn over the knee or scrunched. Reviewers report sliding with several long one-size pairs, so fit is hit-or-miss.

How do I keep leg warmers from sliding down?

Reviewers report sliding with several one-size pairs, including Tavi, ToeSox and Bombas. Scrunching a long pair below the knee leaves less weight above the calf. If your calves are slim, look for published sizing like Tucketts' 8–18 in calf range.

Are there leg warmers with grips on the bottom?

Yes. Sticky Be's stirrup leg warmers have silicone grips underfoot and are 80% cotton and 20% spandex, according to the brand. Another option is a knee-high grip sock such as the Tavi Jane.

Where can I find pink Pilates leg warmers?

Tavi offers Petal and Rose, the Bloch Mira comes in Light Pink and Deep Pink, and the Arebesk Vintage comes in Pink and Lavender.

The verdict

Start with your feet: if you already own grip socks, buy a footless pair; if you don't, Sticky Be's stirrup saves buying both.

  • Most people: Tavi Thigh High. It's footless, made by a grip-sock brand, and long enough to wear over the knee or scrunched (one reviewer said it slid to the calf).
  • One piece, no separate sock: Sticky Be Stirrup (grip is a brand claim).
  • Cotton and published calf sizing: Tucketts.
  • Extra long and warm: ToeSox Thigh High, if wool doesn't bother you.
  • Lowest price: Foot Traffic Super Long.
  • Pink and short: Bloch Mira (Light Pink or Deep Pink).
