The best Pilates springboard gives you Cadillac-style spring work on a wall instead of a big machine. Ellie Herman, who says she invented the Springboard in 2003, describes it as "an inexpensive and space-saving variation of the Pilates Cadillac," with arm and leg springs and a roll-down bar, just like the Cadillac.

Two things trip up shoppers:

  • "Wall Pilates" isn't a machine. It usually means bodyweight exercises against a plain wall, with just a mat. If you search for a "wall Pilates machine" or "wall Pilates reformer," most results are springboards like the ones below.
  • A "wall mounted Pilates reformer" is usually a springboard. Retailers use the name, but a springboard has no carriage. It's a board with springs, not a reformer.

Before you choose a model, check whether your wall can hold one.

How we chose: We compared board size, springs and attachment points, included bars and straps, mounting needs and warranties. Specs come from the makers' pages: Balanced Body, Merrithew, VEVOR, Faittd and Gratz. We cross-checked how springboards work against teacher write-ups from Body Harmonics, a Toronto teacher-training studio.

We don't test products in-house. We found no independent editorial review of any springboard, so most details come from the makers, and we flag what they don't publish (no maker lists a maximum user weight, for example). Check model details on the Amazon listing before you buy.

The best Pilates springboards

Best overall

1. Balanced Body Pilates Springboard

Check price on Amazon

This is the board Ellie Herman designed. Herman says Balanced Body has manufactured the Ellie Herman Springboard in California since 2005, and Body Harmonics credits Ellie Herman as the springboard's creator.

  • Size: 20 inches wide by 72 inches tall, with a maple-faced laminate board, according to Balanced Body.
  • Springs and parts: 2 yellow and 2 purple springs, 22 attachment points, a roll-down bar, handles, loops and a foot dowel.
  • Mounting: Balanced Body's assembly guide says the board is "designed to mount to walls with standard 16" wood stud spacing." It ships with 6 lag bolts and washers for the wall and 24 eyebolts. You supply a 7/16-inch wrench and a drill with a 1/8-inch bit.
  • Installer: Balanced Body says an "experienced handy person with tools" should install it or oversee the job.

Push-through bar add-on: Balanced Body sells a separate Push-Through Bar for the Springboard. It's an anodized aluminum bar with 2 springs in red (medium) or blue (light), with 3 positions, and Balanced Body says you don't need to take the board down to fit it. In its own comparison, though, Balanced Body says the Springboard's bar has a "limited range" compared with the Wall Tower's. We couldn't confirm a price tier for the bar.

Check price on Amazon

Balanced Body's product page asks buyers to contact a local representative for pricing, but the page's product data lists the Springboard in the $500–1,000 tier. Balanced Body doesn't list the Springboard's warranty on the product page, and it doesn't publish a maximum user weight.

Pros

  • ✓ The original springboard design, made in California
  • ✓ 22 attachment points
  • ✓ Optional push-through bar fits without removing the board
  • ✓ Clear assembly guide with hardware for wood studs

Cons

  • ✗ Push-through bar costs extra and has limited range, per Balanced Body
  • ✗ Walls without 16 in wood studs need a contractor
  • ✗ No published weight limit or warranty

Check price at Merrithew

Merrithew's Spring Wall includes padded foot straps and foam handles, plus 60 days of online classes. Merrithew says exercises on it "can be done standing, kneeling, sitting, side-lying, supine or prone."

3. VEVOR Wall Mounted Pilates Reformer Machine (Springboard, B44-F)

Check price at VEVOR

VEVOR sells this as a "Wall Mounted Pilates Reformer Machine," but it's a springboard: a flat board with springs and no carriage. It's the only pick here in the Under $500 tier.

  • Size: Listed as 72 × 22 inches (VEVOR's full listing reads 72x22x(31)x24 in), 55 lb, maple plywood.
  • Resistance: 8 levels from heavy, medium and light springs, according to VEVOR.
  • Hardware: 26 hooks, 5 foot hooks and 10 pegs.
  • Reviews: 4.7 out of 5 from 6 reviews on vevor.com. One reviewer said it "fits perfect in my space without being an eyesore."

Six reviews is a small sample. VEVOR doesn't publish a maximum user weight or wall-type requirements for this model, or a manufacturer warranty (it sells paid third-party protection plans). It was out of stock on vevor.com on October 7, 2026, and we couldn't confirm an Amazon listing.

Pros

  • ✓ Lowest price tier of the picks
  • ✓ 26 hooks and 8 resistance levels, per VEVOR

Cons

  • ✗ Only 6 reviews

Comes with a push-through bar

4. Faittd Pilates Springboard and Push-Through Bar

Check price on Amazon

Faittd's springboard comes bundled with a push-through bar. Faittd says the board is maple and comes with a "304 spring set," a bar kit, a leg kit and carabiner rope adjustment. Those are brand claims, and Faittd says the board is available on Amazon.

  • Warranty and returns: 1-year warranty and 30-day returns, per Faittd.
  • Reviews: One verified review on Faittd's site, which calls it "excellent quality" with "great customer service."

Faittd doesn't publish the board's dimensions, spring count or maximum user weight in text, so we couldn't compare it on size or springs. Check the listing details before you buy.

Pros

  • ✓ Push-through bar included
  • ✓ 1-year warranty and 30-day returns
  • ✓ Sold on Amazon, per Faittd

Cons

  • ✗ Size, spring count and weight limit not published
  • ✗ Only one review on the brand site
  • ✗ Materials based on brand claims only

5. Balanced Body Wall Tower

Check price at Balanced Body

If you want more Cadillac-style work than a flat board allows, Balanced Body's Wall Tower is a step up. It anchors to both the wall and the floor and has a bigger footprint than the Springboard, by Balanced Body's own comparison.

  • Size: 89 × 27 × 20 inches (H × W × D), stainless steel.
  • Springs and bars: 8 springs, 23 attachment points, a push-through bar with 8 height settings and a maple roll-down bar. Balanced Body says the Wall Tower "offers Trapeze Table functionality in a compact, affordable unit," and its push-through bar has a greater range than the Springboard's.
  • Install: Needs at least 89 inches of ceiling clearance. It ships with lag bolts for a wood floor only, so other floors need extra hardware.
  • Warranty: 10-year limited. Made in Sacramento, California. Replacement springs are sold individually with a limited 2-year warranty for home and small-studio use.

The link goes to Balanced Body, which sells the Wall Tower directly.

Pros

  • ✓ 8-height push-through bar
  • ✓ Greater push-through range than the Springboard, per Balanced Body
  • ✓ 10-year limited warranty
  • ✓ Springs sold individually

Cons

  • ✗ Needs wall and floor anchoring
  • ✗ Needs an 89 in ceiling

Gratz says it's 30 inches wide and 83 inches tall, extends 21 inches from the wall, and comes with push-thru and roll-down bars, leather and wood handles, and arm, leg, roll-down and push-thru springs. It's made to order, with about a 3-month lead time.
  • Peak Pilates Deluxe Wall System: 82 inches tall and 25 inches wide (34 inches with the mounting plate), with a raised platform mat and boxes, per Peak. It was out of stock on October 7, 2026, so it isn't a pick.

What you can do on a Pilates springboard

Balanced Body says its Springboard delivers "upper and lower body resistance training at multiple angles, standing, kneeling and lying down on floor mat." Merrithew says exercises on its Spring Wall "can be done standing, kneeling, sitting, side-lying, supine or prone."

Body Harmonics' Springboard 101 says the board is good for "challenging the core and building strength in the hips and shoulder girdle," and that teachers can use Cadillac exercises and adapt mat and Chair moves. Its sample class includes:

  • Spine and abs: flexion and extension using the roll-down bar.
  • Bridges and core: bridge work with the bar under the knees or straps around the feet or thighs, then quadruped work.
  • Standing work: squats and lunges with the leg springs, then arm work with the handles.

Pilates springboard vs reformer vs wall unit

Independent springs and open-chain work

On a reformer, all the springs pull one carriage. On a springboard, Body Harmonics says "each limb works with its own spring," which adds a coordination challenge and makes left-right imbalances obvious. The springs also sit directly in front of or behind you rather than below you, with "nothing between the body and the springs."

Because there's no carriage to support you, most springboard work is open-chain. "There's just you and the springs!" Body Harmonics writes, adding that clients "have to work harder to stabilize and balance."

Resistance by height and distance

Body Harmonics describes the board as plywood fixed to the wall "complete with the springs from a Pilates Cadillac," about 20 inches wide and 6 feet tall, with pairs of eyebolts at numbered levels. It says "the higher the spring is set on the board, the greater the tension," and standing farther from the board makes the exercise harder too.

Front view of a 72 in, 20 in wide springboard with eyebolt pairs at levels 1 to 11, the foot dowel 6 in off the floor, lag bolts into wood studs at 16 in spacing, and an arrow showing that a higher spring point means more tension.

Layout based on Balanced Body's Springboard assembly guide.

Space and footprint

Body Harmonics says springboards are "more affordable and they take up less space" than larger apparatus. The boards here are about 20 to 22 inches wide and 72 inches tall, and the Merrithew sits 4.4 inches off the wall. You'll also need floor space in front for a mat. Towers take more room: the Balanced Body Wall Tower is 20 inches deep and needs an 89-inch ceiling. For room layouts, see how much space you need for a Pilates reformer.

Top-down footprints drawn to scale: a springboard about 20–22 in wide and 4.4 in deep mounted flat on the wall, the Balanced Body Wall Tower at 27 x 20 in that anchors to the wall and floor and needs at least 89 in of ceiling clearance, and a Peak MVe reformer at 103 x 29 in.

Which to pick

If you want carriage work (footwork, rowing and jumping on a moving platform), you need a reformer. If you want carriage and tower work in one machine, see the best Pilates reformers with a tower. A springboard suits you if you want standing and arm-and-leg spring work on a small budget and you have a suitable wall. Choose a wall tower instead if you have the ceiling height and budget and want a push-through bar with more range. Balanced Body says the Wall Tower's bar has a greater range than the Springboard's, at the cost of a bigger footprint.

"Wall Pilates" is a different thing again. Pilates Anytime defines it as pressing against a wall "with your feet, arms, back, or side" with your body weight as resistance, and lists only "a Mat and a wall nearby" as equipment. Healthline calls it "a great beginner-friendly practice." For a full explainer and a starter routine, see our guide to wall Pilates. If you want a structured plan, try our 28-day wall Pilates challenge schedule.

How to choose a Pilates springboard

Your wall: studs, concrete and who installs it

This is the biggest buying factor. Per Balanced Body's assembly guide for its Springboard:

  • Wood studs: It's designed for walls with "standard 16" wood stud spacing."
  • Other walls: "Different types of wall construction may require specific equipment and fasteners."
  • Odd spacing: If your studs aren't standard spacing or the holes don't line up, "consult with a local contractor."
  • Liability: Balanced Body is "not responsible for any damage or injury caused by improper wall mount installation."

Balanced Body's guide has you mark 5 inches up from the floor for the bottom of the board, which puts the foot dowel 6 inches off the floor. Merrithew recommends professional installation and 3.5 inches of clearance between the board and the mat.

Wall requirements vary by model, and some makers don't publish them, so check the requirements for the exact model before you buy.

Springs and attachment points

More attachment points give you more ways to set height, and height changes tension. Balanced Body's board has 22 attachment points in pairs across 11 numbered levels, and VEVOR lists 26 hooks. Merrithew lists 10 eye-hook positions but doesn't say whether those are single hooks or pairs. The Balanced Body and Merrithew boards include separate arm and leg springs. Merrithew uses black roll-down/arm springs and green leg springs, and Balanced Body includes 2 yellow and 2 purple.

Push-through bar or not

A push-through bar adds overhead and pressing exercises. Faittd bundles one. Balanced Body sells it as an add-on with 3 positions, but says its range is limited compared with the Wall Tower's 8-height bar. Merrithew doesn't list one for the Spring Wall.

Ceiling and floor clearance for towers

Wall towers anchor to the floor as well as the wall. The Balanced Body Wall Tower needs at least 89 inches of ceiling clearance and comes with hardware for wood floors only. The Gratz Studio Wall Unit stands 83 inches tall and extends 21 inches from the wall.

Warranty and spring replacement

Merrithew covers straps and clips for 1 year and other Spring Wall components for 2 years. Balanced Body gives the Wall Tower a 10-year limited warranty, and its replacement tower springs carry a limited 2-year warranty for home and small-studio use. Faittd offers 1 year. VEVOR doesn't publish a manufacturer warranty. Springs wear out over time, so check that replacement springs are sold separately. Balanced Body sells Wall Tower springs individually.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Pilates springboard?

A wall-mounted board with springs, handles and a roll-down bar. Ellie Herman says she invented it in 2003 as an inexpensive, space-saving variation of the Cadillac, and that Balanced Body has made it since 2005.

Is a springboard better than a reformer?

Neither is better; they feel different. On a springboard each limb has its own spring and there's no carriage under you, so you do more of the stabilizing yourself. On a reformer, all the springs pull a single carriage that supports your body. Body Harmonics notes that springboards cost less and take up less space.

Is a wall-mounted Pilates reformer the same as a springboard?

Usually it's a springboard. Retailers such as VEVOR sell boards as 'wall mounted Pilates reformer machines,' but they have no carriage. A reformer is a floor machine with a sliding carriage. Wall units and towers, like the Balanced Body Wall Tower, add a push-through bar and anchor to the floor too.

How much does a Pilates springboard cost?

Most boards here fall in the $500–1,000 tier. VEVOR's is Under $500, and wall towers and wall units run $1,000+. A push-through bar can cost extra.

Is wall Pilates the same as a springboard workout?

Usually not. Pilates Anytime and Healthline describe wall Pilates as bodyweight exercises against a plain wall, with only a mat needed. A springboard adds spring resistance.

Can you mount a Pilates springboard on drywall?

Not into drywall alone. Balanced Body's hardware is meant for standard 16-inch wood studs, and for anything else it tells you to consult a local contractor. Merrithew recommends professional installation for its Spring Wall. Check the wall requirements for your model.

How much space does a springboard need?

The boards themselves are about 20 to 22 inches wide and 72 inches tall, and Merrithew's sits 4.4 inches off the wall. You also need floor space in front for a mat. Wall towers take more room: the Balanced Body Wall Tower is 20 inches deep and needs an 89-inch ceiling.

Can I install a springboard in a rental?

Check with your landlord first. Balanced Body's board is fastened with 6 lag bolts into wood studs, and wall towers also bolt to the floor, so both leave holes.

What else do I need?

A mat in front of the board, since Balanced Body describes floor-mat work at multiple angles. See our [best Pilates mats](/best-pilates-mats/).

The verdict

For most homes with standard wood studs, the Balanced Body Pilates Springboard is the safest pick: it's the original design and has the clearest install guide. First check what your wall is made of and who will install the board. Then pick by need:

  • Most home buyers: The Balanced Body Pilates Springboard, the original design, with 22 attachment points and a push-through bar you can add later.
  • You want foot straps in the box: The Merrithew Spring Wall, with foot straps, foam handles and a 2-year warranty on most parts.
  • Tight budget: The VEVOR B44-F, if you're comfortable with few reviews and no published manufacturer warranty.
  • Push-through bar included: The Faittd Pilates Springboard, though Faittd publishes few specs.
  • You have the ceiling and want more Cadillac-style work: The Balanced Body Wall Tower.
