The best Pilates bodysuit or unitard replaces matching leggings and a top with one fitted piece. NBC Select lists "workout unitards" alongside leggings, tank tops and sports bras as appropriate Pilates apparel.

What separates a good Pilates one-piece from a fashion bodysuit:

  • No zippers or hardware that can damage a reformer (per Balanced Body)
  • Enough coverage for legs-in-the-air work
  • The right bra support for your chest
  • A torso that's long enough

Below are five that meet those rules on paper, from a bike-length unitard to full-length jumpsuits.

How we chose:

We don't test products in-house. Where a spec couldn't be confirmed, we say so.

Quick comparison

The best Pilates bodysuits, unitards and jumpsuits

Best Overall

1. Girlfriend Collective Luxe Paneled Unitard

Check price at Girlfriend Collective

Girlfriend Collective's Luxe Paneled Unitard is our overall pick because it pairs full leg coverage with the widest size range we found (XXS–6XL). It comes in two lengths. The Quality Edit says a full-length one-piece means "you do not have to worry about anything riding up during leg circles and scissor kicks." That reviewer was talking about a different brand's onesie, but the point applies to any full-length piece.

  • Fabric: 77% recycled polyester / 23% spandex, four-way stretch, peached interior
  • Inseam: 23 3/4 in (7/8) or 28.5 in (full)
  • Support: built-in support band at the bust with underbust gathering; adjustable straps
  • Build: square neck, low back, side and back waist panels
  • Sizes: XXS–6XL

On the brand's site, it had 4.4/5 stars from 84 reviews when we checked. One reviewer called it "compressive but also soft," and said it "simply does not bind or bunch." Another said the light Cloud color was "SO see through." Do a squat test in good light before wearing it to class, especially in lighter colors. When we checked (October 2026), the black version was discounted and marked final sale on the brand's site. Final-sale items usually can't be returned, so check the size chart and the return policy before you order.

Pros

  • ✓ Two lengths, including full length
  • ✓ Sizes XXS–6XL
  • ✓ Adjustable straps and a support band

Cons

  • ✗ A reviewer found a light color see-through
  • ✗ $100+ list price
  • ✗ Not seen on Amazon US

Best Bike-Length

2. Girlfriend Collective Bike Unitard

Check price at Girlfriend Collective

If you're fine with shorter legs, Girlfriend Collective's Bike Unitard comes in the same XXS–6XL range, and it's one of the few one-pieces with an independent review. The Good Trade's reviewer gave it 8/10 and said it moves "beautifully."

  • Fabric: 79% recycled polyester / 21% spandex. The brand calls it sweat-wicking and sheer-proof, with four-way stretch.
  • Inseam: 6 in
  • Build: scoop neck, low back, built-in bra, and "no waist or center front seams," per the brand
  • Intended use: low- to medium-impact workouts, per the brand
  • Sizes: XXS–6XL

On the brand's site, it had 4.5/5 stars from 2,105 reviews when we checked. The Good Trade's reviewer wore it for yoga. She'd add a sports bra "for anything that requires higher impact or inversion hops," and said one layered underneath without friction.

At 6 inches, the legs are short. NBC Select's experts say shorts aren't ideal for Pilates "unless they're longer and have a liner," because your legs are often in the air. Check your coverage in a mirror before class. In October 2026, black was marked final sale on the brand's site, and some colors were discounted.

Pros

  • ✓ Sizes XXS–6XL
  • ✓ Built-in bra and no waist seam
  • ✓ Independent review (The Good Trade, 8/10)
  • ✓ Sheer-proof, per the brand

Cons

  • ✗ Short 6-inch legs; check coverage for legs-up work
  • ✗ No phone pocket, per The Good Trade
  • ✗ Add a sports bra for inversions or bigger chests
  • ✗ Not seen on Amazon US

Best Budget

3. CRZ YOGA Butterluxe Built in Bra Jumpsuit 25"

Check price on Amazon

CRZ YOGA's Butterluxe jumpsuit uses the same fabric as the brand's Butterluxe 25" leggings. NBC Select describes the Butterluxe leggings as having "minimal compression and more stretch" and lists them as best for yoga, Pilates and barre. That's a description of the leggings, not this jumpsuit, so treat it as a fabric note only.

  • Fabric: 81% polyamide / 19% Lycra, brushed four-way stretch. CRZ YOGA describes it as "very gentle compression" with "light support."
  • Bra: built in, with removable padding
  • Straps: adjustable
  • Inseam: 25 in. A 30-inch flare version also exists.
  • Sizes: XXS–XL

We found no editorial review of the jumpsuit itself. Review snippets on the brand's site are mixed on fit: one says it "runs a bit large" with "very little compression," and another says it has "just enough compression."

Pros

  • ✓ Under $50
  • ✓ Soft, stretchy fabric suited to low-impact work
  • ✓ Removable pads and adjustable straps
  • ✓ 7/8-length legs (25 in)

Cons

  • ✗ Light support only
  • ✗ Sizes stop at XL
  • ✗ Mixed fit reports; no editorial review
  • ✗ Amazon listing not confirmed as the same style

Best for Your Own Bra

4. Sunzel Women's Yoga Jumpsuit, Adjustable Spaghetti Strap

Check price on Amazon

Most one-pieces come with a shelf bra, which may not be enough support. Sunzel's spaghetti-strap jumpsuit has none. Its Amazon listing says "No Chest Pads," so you can wear it over your own sports bra.

  • Fabric: 75% polyamide / 25% elastane, hand wash only (from a search snippet of the listing)
  • Build: four-way stretch, adjustable straps, square neck, soft fitted design
  • Inseam: 26 or 28 in
  • Marketed for: yoga and Pilates, per the listing title

These are listing claims. We found no editorial review, and we couldn't read the Amazon rating. Sunzel's own site lists a similar jumpsuit in XS–XL, but it was sold out when we checked, so we couldn't confirm the Amazon size range. Sunzel also sells zip-front jumpsuits. Skip those for reformer classes (see below).

Pros

  • ✓ Wear the sports bra you already trust
  • ✓ Two inseam lengths
  • ✓ Under $50
  • ✓ No hardware

Cons

  • ✗ No built-in support at all
  • ✗ Hand wash only, per a listing snippet
  • ✗ Specs are listing claims; no editorial review
  • ✗ Similar zip-front styles aren't reformer-safe

Cheapest Pick

5. LOVESOFT Women's Sleeveless Backless Bodysuit Unitard

Check price on Amazon

InStyle named the LOVESOFT unitard its best budget workout bodysuit in 2023. SLT master instructor Rani Vance told InStyle its "quality is comparable to more expensive picks." The catch, per InStyle: the torso runs small, so longer-torso wearers may need to size up.

  • Fabric: 78% polyester / 22% spandex (listing snippet). InStyle lists polyester/spandex.
  • Bra: none
  • Inseam: about 24 in on a size S (listing snippet)
  • Build: backless with a gusset. The listing calls it "non sheer" and says it "passes the squat test," but also says it's "not true compression."
  • Sizes: XS–XXL, per InStyle

The open back means no bra coverage behind. You'll need a sports bra that works with a low back, or be comfortable with it showing. InStyle's review is from 2023, so the colors and details may have changed.

Pros

  • ✓ Lowest price tier here
  • ✓ Editorial budget pick (InStyle)
  • ✓ Squat-proof, per the listing

Cons

  • ✗ Torso runs small, per InStyle
  • ✗ No bra; backless design limits bra choice
  • ✗ Not compressive
  • ✗ Review is from 2023

Also considered

  • Lululemon Align Bodysuit 25": an InStyle pick in 2023, but it was sold out and final sale on Lululemon's Canadian site when we checked. Search results for the US Cross-Back version describe it without a shelf bra. We couldn't load either page in full.
  • FORM Scoop Neck Onesie: The Quality Edit's reformer pick, but it was on deep clearance when we checked.
  • Adanola unitards: a Marie Claire UK pick. Adanola is a UK brand, and we couldn't open the full Marie Claire article to confirm details.
  • Alo Airlift A-List Onesie and Beyond Yoga Spacedye All Around Jumpsuit: premium one-pieces that were out of stock (Alo) or out of stock in black and on final sale (Beyond Yoga) when we checked.
  • On Studio Bodysuit and Studio Knit Bodysuit: On markets these for yoga and Pilates, and the Knit version for "low-impact training" too (per On's Pilates bodysuits page). They're premium ($100+), and we found no independent review.
  • BAM Enduro Bodysuit: Marie Claire UK's best unitard for yoga. BAM is a UK brand, and we couldn't find the bodysuit on BAM's UK site when we checked (October 2026).
  • Zip-front jumpsuits: not reformer-safe, per Balanced Body (see below).

How to choose a Pilates bodysuit

Bodysuit, unitard or jumpsuit?

Wikipedia defines a unitard as "a skintight, one-piece garment with long legs and sometimes long sleeves." A leotard is similar but "does not have long legs." Retailers use these words loosely. Girlfriend Collective sells a 6-inch-inseam "unitard." CRZ YOGA and Sunzel call their full-length pieces "jumpsuits." Some "bodysuits," like Athleta's, are leotard-style tops you wear under bottoms. Ignore the name and check the inseam and coverage on the listing.

Glossary of Pilates one-pieces by inseam: a leotard-style bodysuit with no legs, a bike unitard at about 6 inches, a 7/8 unitard at about 24 to 25 inches, and a full-length jumpsuit at 28 inches or more, each with a short Pilates note

Skip zippers and hardware

Balanced Body, which makes reformers, says to "always choose clothing without exposed zippers, metal rivets, or plastic buttons, as these can easily tear or puncture the delicate vinyl upholstery of the Pilates equipment." Zip-front jumpsuits are common on Amazon. They're fine for the gym, but not for reformer class. None of our picks have zippers.

Fit: snug, not baggy

Club Pilates master instructor Vanessa Johnson told NBC Select that "form-fitting clothing helps instructors see your body and correct your form more accurately." Obé Fitness instructor Marcia Meade said to "avoid oversized, baggy clothing, which can get in the way." Balanced Body agrees: nothing should be "loose enough to get caught in the Reformer's parts."

Length and coverage

Full-length and 7/8 pieces cover your legs during moves with your legs in the air, like leg circles. For bike-length unitards, NBC Select's advice on shorts applies: longer is better, "since you often have your legs in the air."

Built-in bra or your own?

InStyle notes that many workout bodysuits have a built-in bra or chest lining. Whether you also need a separate sports bra depends on your chest size and how intense the workout is. The Quality Edit found that some one-pieces give limited support for larger chests. The Good Trade's reviewer suggests adding a sports bra for inversions. If a shelf bra isn't enough for you, choose a no-pad style like the Sunzel and pair it with one of the best sports bras for Pilates.

Torso fit and sizing

This is where one-pieces go wrong most often. InStyle says many workout bodysuits run small, especially in the torso and top, so check the size guide. Sizing up is often recommended. We couldn't find torso-length measurements on any of the brand pages we checked, and there's no standard sizing rule. Read each brand's size chart and look for reviews from people with your height and torso length. Brand-page reviewers say Girlfriend Collective's Tina unitard and Beyond Yoga's All Around jumpsuit run small.

Fabric and opacity

For low-intensity workouts, fitness pro Lindsay Arnold told InStyle to opt for "buttery soft, low compression materials that allow for more flexibility and movement." That describes most Pilates classes. Darker colors hide sweat better in harder sessions, she added. Do a squat or forward-fold test in front of a mirror in good light, since even premium pieces get see-through complaints.

Shopping for a Pilates bodysuit on Amazon

Amazon sells a huge range of one-pieces, and many aren't built for reformer class. Before you buy:

  • Skip zip-front and snap-crotch styles. Balanced Body warns that hardware can tear reformer upholstery.
  • Check the inseam and fabric in the listing details, not the title.
  • Look for "squat-proof" or "non-sheer" claims, then do your own mirror test.
  • Read reviews from people with your height and torso length.

Three of our picks are sold on Amazon: the CRZ YOGA Butterluxe Jumpsuit (best budget), the Sunzel Spaghetti Strap Jumpsuit (no pads, so you can wear your own bra) and the LOVESOFT Backless Unitard (cheapest).

Bathroom trips

The downside of any one-piece is that you have to take the whole thing off to use the bathroom. The Quality Edit lists "difficult bathroom access" as a con. If that's a dealbreaker, Pilates leggings plus a fitted top get you most of the same look.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you wear a bodysuit or unitard to Pilates?

Yes. NBC Select's expert-sourced guide lists workout unitards as appropriate Pilates apparel, and instructors prefer form-fitting clothes so they can see and correct your form. Balanced Body adds that clothes shouldn't be loose enough to catch on the reformer.

What's the difference between a unitard, a bodysuit and a jumpsuit?

Wikipedia defines a unitard as a skintight one-piece with long legs, unlike a leotard, which has no legs. Retailers use bodysuit, jumpsuit, onesie and even unitard loosely. Girlfriend Collective's Bike Unitard has a 6-inch inseam, while some bodysuits are leotard-style tops worn under bottoms. Check the inseam on the listing.

Do you need to wear a bra under a unitard?

It depends on the piece and your chest. InStyle notes many bodysuits have built-in bras or lining, so a separate bra is optional depending on chest size and intensity. The Good Trade's reviewer suggests adding a sports bra to the Girlfriend Collective Bike Unitard for higher-impact or inversion work. Some pieces, like the Sunzel spaghetti-strap jumpsuit, have no pads at all.

Should a Pilates unitard have a zipper?

Not for reformer work. Balanced Body says exposed zippers, metal rivets and plastic buttons can tear or puncture the reformer's vinyl upholstery.

Do workout bodysuits run small?

Often, especially in the torso. InStyle advises checking size guides and notes that sizing up is often recommended. Brand-page reviewers report small fits on Girlfriend Collective's Tina unitard and Beyond Yoga's All Around jumpsuit.

Are bodysuits practical for Pilates class?

They can be. The Quality Edit says a full-length one-piece means you don't have to worry about anything riding up during leg circles and scissor kicks. The trade-off, per the same site, is harder bathroom trips, since you have to take the whole thing off. If that bothers you, leggings plus a fitted top give a similar look.

Is a short or full-length unitard better for Pilates?

Full length gives the most coverage when your legs are in the air. NBC Select's experts say shorts aren't ideal unless they're longer and lined, and the same logic applies to bike-length unitards.

The verdict

Pick by length first. Our overall pick is the Girlfriend Collective Luxe Paneled Unitard in the 28.5-inch full length: sizes XXS–6XL and a support band at the bust. Squat-test lighter colors.
