Finding Pilates grip socks for wide feet is harder than it should be. If your feet are wide or high-volume, many studio styles feel tight across the forefoot or the top of the arch, especially one-size and strappy designs. The squeeze gets worse as class goes on.
No brand we found sells a labeled wide-width Pilates grip sock. The practical fix is a brand with a real size range (L or XL, ideally men's or unisex sizing), a design without straps over the top of the foot, and grip that still covers the whole sole.
How we chose: We compared published size charts from each brand (and Amazon listings where we link to Amazon), strap and toe design, and fit notes from Garage Gym Reviews, NBC Select (which interviewed Pilates studio owner Saba Alavi-Parham and coach Bekah Kilinski) and Yahoo Health. We don't test products in-house. No outlet we found has evaluated these socks specifically for wide feet, and none of these socks is sold as a wide-width product. Our width judgments are inferences from size range, unisex sizing, strap design and reviewers' tightness notes.
If your feet aren't wide, start with our best Pilates grip socks guide.

The best Pilates grip socks for wide feet
Best Overall for Wide Feet
1. doublesoul Quarter Grip Sock
NBC Select made the doublesoul Quarter Grip Sock an Editor's Pick. It also goes up to the largest women's size of any sock here (15.5), and the sizing covers both men's and women's feet.
- Sizes (per NBC Select): S (W 5–8 / M 4.5–6.5), M (W 8.5–10.5 / M 7–9), L (W 11–13 / M 9.5–11.5), XL (W 13.5–15.5 / M 12–14)
- Design: quarter height (above the ankle), seamless toe cap, no straps
- Material: cotton-nylon blend (NBC Select and the brand list slightly different percentages)
NBC Select describes it as highly cushioned. Garage Gym Reviews notes that too much cushion can let your foot move inside the sock, so if you're between sizes, keep that in mind before sizing up.
doublesoul sells this sock on its own site. We couldn't find an Amazon listing for the grip version.
Pros
- ✓ Sizes up to women's 15.5 / men's 14
- ✓ No straps over the top of the foot
- ✓ Seamless toe cap
Cons
- ✗ Not on Amazon
- ✗ Heavy cushioning may feel less precise on the footbar
Best on Amazon
2. Bombas Men's Gripper Ankle Sock
Bombas' Gripper Ankle Sock is a simpler, strap-free alternative to the brand's Studio Gripper Ballet. Garage Gym Reviews named it the best Pilates sock for men and says it comes in three sizes covering men's 6–16 (women's 4–13).
- Men's sizes: three sizes covering men's 6–16, per Garage Gym Reviews
- Women's version: S (4–7.5), M (8–10.5), L (11–13), per Bombas. It's a separate listing, so pick the version that matches the size chart you need.
- Design: ankle height, honeycomb arch support, blister tab at the heel, seamless toe (per GGR)
The main button runs an Amazon search for the men's version. If a women's L (11–13) covers your length, the women's Gripper Ankle is the same strap-free design.
Women's version on AmazonPros
- ✓ Men's sizes up to 16
- ✓ No top straps
- ✓ Seamless toe
Cons
- ✗ Women's sizes stop at 13
- ✗ Don't confuse it with the strappy Studio Gripper Ballet
Best Crew for Long, Wide Feet
3. MoveActive Crew Grip Socks
MoveActive lists five sizes for its Crew Grip Socks, tied with Tavi for the most here, and the largest goes to a women's 15. The two largest go well past most studio brands.
- Sizes (per MoveActive): XS (W 4–6), S (W 6–8), M (W 8–10 / M 7–9), L (W 10–13 / M 9–11), XL (W 13–15 / M 12–14)
- Design: crew height, elasticized cuffs, arch compression, PVC sole grips
- Material: 80% cotton, 12% polyester, 8% elastane (per MoveActive)
Not every print comes in L and XL. On MoveActive's site, solid colors appear to have the widest size range, so check your size before picking a color.
MoveActive itself recommends sizing down if you're between sizes, so check its chart before sizing up.
Pros
- ✓ XS–XL with men's equivalents
- ✓ Crew height stays up
- ✓ Mostly cotton
Cons
- ✗ Largest sizes not offered in every print
- ✗ Arch compression may feel snug
- ✗ Sold on the brand site
Best Low-Rise
4. Tavi Savvy Grip Socks
Tavi is a studio staple, and NBC Select lists the Savvy in XS through XL (XS 4–6, S 6–8, M 8.5–10.5, L 11–13, XL 13–14, women's sizes). That's a broad range for a low-rise sock.
- Design: below-ankle cut, supportive arch band, heel tab (per Tavi)
- No straps over the top of the foot
The arch band is the one spot to watch if your feet are high-volume. Popular colors can sell out, so check that your size is in stock before you pick a color.
Pros
- ✓ XS–XL sizing
- ✓ Strap-free top
- ✓ Heel tab (per Tavi)
Cons
- ✗ Arch band could press on high arches
- ✗ Sized in women's sizes (per NBC Select)
Best Cushioned Crew
5. Fitness Snob Got A Grip Crew
NBC Select says the Fitness Snob Got A Grip Crew has ribbing around the leg and ankle that keeps the socks up "without causing them to feel tight around your legs." That may also help if your calves are on the larger side, though no source tested that.
- Sizes: S/M (up to 9) and M/L (9 and up), per Fitness Snob. The Amazon size chart lists M-L as 9–12.
- Design: crew height, full cushion
- Material: cotton-nylon blend per the Amazon listing; NBC Select also lists spandex
The catch is the size range. Two sizes stop at about a women's 12, so this works best for wide feet that aren't also long.
Pros
- ✓ Ribbing that NBC Select says doesn't feel tight on the legs
- ✓ Full cushion
- ✓ Crew height
Cons
- ✗ Only two sizes
- ✗ Premium price tier
Best Budget (Up to a Women's 10)
6. Gaiam Grippy Studio Toeless Yoga Socks
Garage Gym Reviews found the open, strappy top of Gaiam's Grippy Toeless socks "wasn't super tight," and said that "indicates that it will work well for larger feet and folks with high arches."
There are real limits:
- One size, up to a women's 10 / men's 9 (GGR, Amazon listing)
- Toe pressure: customer reviews cited circulation issues around the toes, per GGR
- Mixed strap reports: Yahoo's testers found crisscross straps on two other brands felt snug by the end of class
- Toeless: a style NBC Select's experts advise against (more on that below)
If your feet are wide and longer than a women's 10, skip this one.
This is the toeless style GGR reviewed. Gaiam also sells a closed-toe Grippy sock with crisscross straps, which NBC Select picked as a budget option; GGR's fit note doesn't cover that one.
Pros
- ✓ Lowest price tier here
- ✓ Open top that GGR didn't find tight
Cons
- ✗ One size only (up to women's 10)
- ✗ Customer reviews cited pressure around the toes, per GGR
- ✗ Toeless, which some experts and studios discourage
For Toes That Like to Spread
7. ToeSox Half Toe Low Rise
ToeSox says its five-toe design "allows toes to move and spread naturally" (that's the brand's claim). The Half Toe Low Rise comes in XS (3–5.5), S (6–8), M (8.5–10.5) and L (11–13), per ToeSox's product page. Yahoo Health lists an XL, but the brand page we checked showed XS–L only, so XL is unverified.
Two caveats. Individual toe pockets can be the tight spot for a wide forefoot. And NBC Select's experts advise against toeless socks because "they're not as hygienic and defeat the purpose of wearing Pilates socks." Yahoo Health's tester also saw "quite a bit of fraying around the toes after machine-washing them only twice."
Pros
- ✓ Lets toes spread (brand claim)
- ✓ Sizes up to 13
- ✓ Strap-free
Cons
- ✗ Toe pockets may pinch wide toes
- ✗ Some studios and experts discourage toeless styles
- ✗ Yahoo saw fraying
Socks that may feel tight on wide feet
These are popular picks, but reviewers' notes suggest they're harder to get right with wide feet:
- Crisscross-strap styles. Yahoo Health found the crisscrossing on the Bombas Studio Gripper Ballet No Show "did start to dig in after a 45-minute home reformer workout," and the Ozaiic socks' crisscross design "felt a tad snugger than the Bombas by the end of class."
- Pointe Studio Nina Grip Sock. Yahoo Health's tester found her size a tad small, and Yahoo listed only two sizes (S/M and M/L). Separately, Pointe Studio's size chart for its Happy Full Foot Grip Sock now includes an L/XL (11–13), and the brand says, "If you're between sizes or typically wear a half size, we recommend sizing up for comfort."
- Lululemon Find Your Balance Studio Tab Socks. Garage Gym Reviews notes that, according to customer reviews, they run small.
- One-size socks like Lucky Honey's Harlow. Bekah Kilinski told NBC Select the Harlow conforms to the shape of your foot well, but there's no larger size if it doesn't.
- ToeSox Full Toe Crew. According to ToeSox, it only comes in S (6–8) and M (8.5–10.5).
- IrisBear crew. Garage Gym Reviews found the calf compression pretty tight and thought people with larger calves may have a hard time pulling them on.
If no grip sock fits
None of the outlets above covered these, so the details below come from the brands themselves:
- Grip shoes with width-based sizing. Barreletics makes grippy shoes for barre and Pilates (a $50–100 tier). Its size guide says that if you're between a women's 7.5 and 8, a wider foot should go with the Large. Sizes stop at a women's 11 / men's 10.5, though.
- An open-toe, open-heel sock. PIGA's PigaLite leaves both the toes and heel open and uses unisex sizing from S to XXL, according to piga.shop. It's still a toeless style, which NBC Select's experts advise against.
- Ask your studio. Some studios require closed grip socks, so check whether it allows grip shoes or toeless styles before you buy.

Pick a brand with real size ranges
Gaiam's one-size sock, for example, tops out at a women's 10: it covers women's 5–10 / men's 4–9, per GGR and NBC Select. Brands with L and XL sizes, like doublesoul, MoveActive, Tavi and Bombas, give you more room in the same style.
Size up one step, not two
Sizing up can relieve pressure across the forefoot, but there's a limit, and brand advice varies: Pointe Studio says to size up if you're between sizes, while MoveActive says to size down. Saba Alavi-Parham of Fuse Pilates told NBC Select "we don't want them to be loose," and NBC Select notes that loose socks move the grips around and reduce security and control on the apparatus. If you're at the top of a size range, go up one size at most.
For general footwear (not socks specifically), the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons' OrthoInfo notes that feet can swell during the day, that standing expands your feet, and that "one foot may be slightly larger than the other." It's a reasonable rule of thumb to check sizing against your larger foot.
Skip top straps and tight arch bands
Straps across the instep are a common pressure point. Yahoo Health's testers found the crisscross straps on two socks started to dig in or feel snug by the end of class. Garage Gym Reviews had a better experience with Gaiam's open strappy top, so results vary. If you've had trouble before, a quarter, crew or plain ankle cut avoids the issue. Arch bands and compression zones are worth a second look too.
Toe socks: helpful or not?
Five-toe socks let toes spread, according to ToeSox. But each toe pocket is a fixed size, which can feel tight on a broad forefoot, and NBC Select's experts advise against toeless designs for hygiene. Not sure your studio requires grip socks at all? See do you need grip socks for Pilates.
Check the stretch in the fabric
Fiber blends vary between these socks. MoveActive lists 80% cotton, 12% polyester and 8% elastane for its Crew Grip, and NBC Select lists spandex in the Fitness Snob Got A Grip Crew. More elastane generally means more give, but no outlet has measured stretch across these socks, so treat the blend as a hint, not a fit guarantee.
Full-sole grip, thin enough to feel the bar
Wider feet don't change what the sole needs. Look for:
- Grips from toe to heel "for safety and to prevent slipping when moving" (Alavi-Parham, NBC Select)
- At minimum, grips under the ball of the foot and heel (Garage Gym Reviews)
- Targeted or minimal cushioning so your foot doesn't slide inside the sock (Garage Gym Reviews)
- Grips thin enough that you can feel the machine under your foot (Kilinski, NBC Select)
For washing and drying without wrecking the grips, see how to wash grip socks.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I size up in grip socks if I have wide feet?
Usually by one size, if you're at the top of a range. Brand advice varies: Pointe Studio recommends sizing up if you're between sizes, while MoveActive recommends sizing down, so check each chart. Also, Saba Alavi-Parham told NBC Select that grip socks shouldn't be loose, and NBC notes that loose socks move the grips and reduce control on the apparatus, so don't go up two sizes. For shoes, AAOS OrthoInfo suggests fitting your larger foot.
Are toe socks good for wide feet?
It depends. ToeSox says its five-toe design lets toes move and spread naturally (a brand claim). But toe pockets can feel tight, Garage Gym Reviews found Gaiam's five-toe (Full Toe) version takes effort and fine motor skills to put on, and NBC Select's experts advise against toeless styles for hygiene.
Do one-size-fits-most grip socks work for wide feet?
Often not. Gaiam's one-size grippy socks cover only women's 5–10 / men's 4–9, per GGR and NBC Select. GGR did find the open strappy top of Gaiam's toeless style wasn't super tight and thought it would suit larger feet. Brands with L/XL sizes, like doublesoul, MoveActive, Tavi and Bombas, give you more room.
Why do grip socks with straps feel tight?
Straps sit across the top of the foot. Yahoo Health's testers found the crisscross straps on Bombas' Studio Gripper Ballet No Show started to dig in after a 45-minute reformer workout, and Ozaiic's felt a little snugger still by the end of class. Quarter, crew or ankle styles without top straps avoid that pressure point.
Do grip socks stretch over time?
Some brands say so. Pointe Studio says its grip socks are designed for a snug fit and will stretch slightly with wear, molding to your feet over time. That's a brand claim, not an independent finding, so don't count on a tight pair loosening much.
Can women wear men's grip socks for wide feet?
Yes, as long as the length fits. Bombas' men's Gripper Ankle goes up to a men's 16, per Garage Gym Reviews, and unisex charts like doublesoul's list men's and women's sizes side by side. Neither brand publishes width measurements, so any extra room in a men's or larger size is an assumption, not a measured difference.
What should Pilates grip socks have?
Grips from toe to heel and a snug, not loose, fit, according to Pilates studio owner Saba Alavi-Parham and coach Bekah Kilinski, interviewed by NBC Select. Garage Gym Reviews also recommends targeted or minimal cushioning so your foot doesn't slide inside the sock.
The verdict
If your feet are both wide and long, start with the doublesoul Quarter Grip Sock or MoveActive Crew Grip Socks. Both go up to an XL that fits about a women's 15. If you'd rather order on Amazon, the Bombas Men's Gripper Ankle Sock goes up to a men's 16 with no straps on top. Tavi Savvy is the low-rise option with a broad XS–XL range. Under a women's 10 and on a budget? GGR's notes on Gaiam's toeless sock make it worth a try, with the caveats above.
Check price on Amazon Check price at doublesoulNone of these is sold as a wide-width sock, so treat size charts as your main guide and size up one step at most. For more options, browse the grip socks category.
